Tied To Tigers is a musical project by Matthew Corken that has two sides: a solo aspect and a full band. On the solo side, Corken loops multiple instruments ranging from percussion to guitars and vocals, creating the idea of building a song from the ground up, almost like showing how a song is composed. On the other side is the full band, which has an indie rock feel with influences from electronic sounds and old blues guitar riffs.
Corken grew up surrounded by music. His mother was an Indianapolis musician that played in cover bands, and Corken would always go to their practices with interest and curiosity. Once he was in 7th grade, he started playing guitar with a band of Butler and North Central students. Since then, he’s been playing in different projects such as Gin and Tonic, The Urban Rednecks, The Working Hour, The Post Script and now Tied To Tigers.
Corken has come a long way with his Tied To Tigers project. Now, he has monthly shows at Connor’s Pub, The Monkey’s Tale, Flatwater, Britton Tavern, The Melody Inn, Bourbon Street and Social. He has played at the Slamology car and truck show with his full band along with opening for DJ Craze at The Vogue. He even opened for The Plain White Tees at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Coke Zero Music Fest!
For ORANJE, TTT will be performing a full band show featuring the core three musicians and a synth player alongside a DJ, mostly playing songs off of this fall’s Tied To Tigers release. This will be Tied To Tigers’ first time being in ORANJE. “I’m extremely excited to be a part of the event and see all the amazing artists that are a part of it this year.”
Coming up after ORANJE, Tied to Tigers is playing a full band show at The Monkey’s Tale on October 18, a solo show at Social on October 24 and will be in the second round of the Birdy’s battle on October 25 as a full band. The first full band EP will be available online and on vinyl at the end of October along a second EP online and on vinyl in December.
Make sure to check out Tied To Tigers on October 12 at ORANJE 2013! Parting words from Corken: “You, him, her, them, us, all together, we gather.”
