ORANJE began as an idea for a small gathering of friends to share art and music in the spring of 2002. The brainchild of Adam Crockett and Ryan Hickey, two young men with a passion for art, music, experience and creativity, ORANJE first took place in September 2002 and, from there, has quickly grown into a major and highly anticipated cultural event.
Since 2002, ORANJE has continued to develop and grow by broadening its horizons to include more and different types of art and music and by evolving the idea of what an art & music festival can truly be. In fact, over the past seven years, ORANJE has showcased the talents of over 250 fine artists, 125 musicians over 30 independent film makers to over 12,000 patrons with annual attendance of over 3,000! This is all the more amazing when you realize that ORANJE takes place only once a year and for one night only.
Over the life of the event, ORANJE has become one of the premier contemporary culture events in the Midwest and regularly features artists and musicians from all over the region. With the support of ORANJE sponsors, patrons, participants and volunteers, ORANJE continues to explore the boundaries of art, music and culture and present them to the public in an exciting, interactive and stimulating environment where you can truly ‘indulge your senses’.
Oranje 2002
Held on September 21st, 2002, amidst concrete freezers and industrial machinery, ORANJE exceeded even the wildest plans and predictions. A gathering of friends had turned into a showcase of the best in local art and music in the Indianapolis area with over 700 people in attendance. Painters, sculptors, filmmakers, DJs, photographers, jazz musicians, tattoo artists, graffiti writers and more all came together to provide an incredible presentation of modern art and progressive music that no one would soon forget. This first event laid the ground work for what ORANJE would become.

Oranje 2003
Our second event took place on September 20th, 2003 and ORANJE was back with a vengeance. Coming off a very successful first event, expectations for ORANJE 2003 were very high. With more artists and musicians showcased, attendance nearly doubled to 1,300 patrons. The venue was an old auto factory on the near north side of downtown Indianapolis, a wide open space which presented ample opportunity for presentations inside and out. A school bus was painted entirely with graffiti, independent films were screened, new music acts were formed and emerged and the event grew in size and scope, proving that ORANJE was to be a mainstay in the Indianapolis art and music scene for years to come.

Oranje 2004
Held on September 18th, 2004, ORANJE 2004 experimented with a new type of venue that merged multiple structures into one large experience. Using two adjacent vacant warehouse spaces and joining them with a nightclub, formerly known as Fusion, this ORANJE experience was like no other event and is still unique to this day. This was the year that ORANJE began to be recognized by the media, civic government and those in the know as a premier arts and music event that would transform the cultural scene in the Midwest. Continuing our growth in attendance to over 1,800 patrons, ORANJE 2004 is considered the event that put ORANJE on the map.

Oranje 2005
Held on September 17th, 2005, ORANJE was raised to new heights when the City of Indianapolis offered us the best venue yet, the historic Herron School of Art, located at 16th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Many of the artists who participated in ORANJE 2005 had attended school in the building, bringing a feeling of old and new to the event. This event was the first time that ORANJE presented a fashion show, to the DJ stylings of DJ Helicon. with three floors of action, more artists and musicians than ever and multiple Enviro-Lounges, ORANJE 2005 brought over 2,200 guests through the doors for a night that was not to be forgotten.

Oranje 2007
Saturday, September 15, 2007 marked another glorious night for ORANJE. On so many levels, the evening surpassed anything we had previously presented. The refreshingly cool evening, a perfect venue, our amazing staff & participants and the wonderful patrons all combined to make ORANJE 2007 an amazing evening.
In 2007, ORANJE featured the talents of over 45 fine artists, 25 music acts performing on five stages, as well as a beautiful film lounge which screened independent movies and shorts throughout the evening. Additionally, our Anti-Fashion Show was a big hit with its skewed approach to showcasing beauty and couture, combined with a twist of social commentary.
In this sixth year of our annual event, ORANJE truly hit its stride. All the pieces of the puzzle--producers, staff, participants, sponsors and patrons--came together in unison to present a remarkable showcase of contemporary art & progressive music which is unrivaled in the Midwest. The diversity of art & music, the flawless execution & organization and the free-flowing socially interactive environment once again solidified the place of ORANJE on the Indianapolis cultural map.

Oranje 2008
For the first time ever, ORANJE 2008 utilized the save venue as the previous year. The reason...the building is perfect for ORANJE! On September 20, 2008, the 60,000 square foot warehouse at 2323 North Illinois was again transformed into an overwhelming display of art, music, film, fashion and culture. Over 50 artists and 25 music acts were presented, along with two Enviro-Lounges, the first outdoor film lounge and multiple interactive art displays. Oranje 2009
ORANJE 2009 was held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 and once ORANJE made its home in the 60,000 square foot vacant Ross-Gage Building located at 2323 North Illinois Street. ORANJE 2009 featured over 40 fine arts and 50 bands on 7 stages, a record number of music performers for ORANJE. ORANJE 2009 also experienced yet another year with a growth in attendance drawing over 3,200 people to the event. Our 2009 event featured a new concept in the presentation of fashion art at ORANJE with the IndyHub Fashion Lounge where people mingled, discussed and experienced the cutting edge of fashion in Indianapolis. Coinciding with the growth in attendance, ORANJE 2009, retained nearly all the 2008 sponsors and garnered many new sponsors during difficult economic times including Matchbook Creative, Barefoot Wine, X-103 FM, Vitamin Water and many other quality companies and organizations who contributed the overall experience of ORANJE. The entire event and evening were a huge success and were bolstered by a clear gorgeous September evening.
